Digital Scrapbook Artist

I have wanted to get into digital scrapbooking for a couple of years now. I have two popular programs that I use all the time to edit graphics for my web site, however using them for scrapbooking has a huge learning curve. Many scrapbooking computer programs are based on templates and sticker-like embellishments that just didn’t quite measure up to current trends. Finally, a software program for digital scrapbooking is available that is exactly what I was looking for. Serif Digital Scrapbook Artist contains everything I need to get started scrapbooking in minutes, making pages that look modern and fit with my style.

Ease of Use

Using Digital Scrapbook Artist for the very first time, I was able to create a zoo themed page in minutes. I began with a prefinished scrapbook page from the "Festive Walk" pack included with the software and deleted all of the extra embellishments on the page that I didn’t need on my layout. Then, I moved items around by just clicking and dragging them. I resized a few things, dragged and dropped a photo frame, and then added my photos. The photo automatically fills the frame making it quick and easy to complete a beautiful scrapbook page layout. If you are brand new to digital scrapbooking you will love how easy it is to learn to use this program. If you have been digital scrapbooking for a long time using one of the well known graphic design programs you will love how Digital Scrapbook Artist is filled with customizable options such as brushes, writing and cutting tools, and themed content packs, allowing you to create pages that represent your own scrapbooking style.

NEW: A free version of Digital Scrapbook Artist Compact is now available on the Daisy Trail web site. Now you can try this software for yourself today!

Kits and Template

Digital Scrapbook Artist contains scrapbook page elements arranged by theme in Content Packs, similar to kits you can download from many websites on the internet. Each Content Pack contains background papers, materials, photo frames, decorative elements, and themed alphabet letters. You can drag and drop each of these items to a blank scrapbook page or you can start with one of the several pre-designed scrapbook pages in each Content Pack. The thing that really impressed me about the pre-designed pages is that each item on the layout is still a separate element. You can move, delete, enlarge, or reduce any of them to customize the page to fit with your photos and style.

If you are like me, you have been collecting beautiful themed kits from all of the companies online who offer them for free. These downloads have “piled up” on your computer but you haven’t ever had a really simple way to organize or use them. Digital Scrapbook Artist allows you to add these kits to their easy-to-use software so that all of the kits you already have can be used to create pages using the tools available in the program. Your creativity is not constrained by the software but rather you can create custom digital scrapbook pages using the layouts and themes that are included or even using the digital scrapbooking kits that you have downloaded to your computer created by artists from all over the internet.

Journaling

Digital Scrapbook Artist comes with 75 fonts and a custom designed alphabet that matches each Content Pack or theme. You also have access to all of the fonts on your computer so journaling is still as easy as it is in your favorite word processor. Digital Scrapbook Artist also gives you the ability to journaling inside custom shapes or along lines and curves. I was able to add a simple text box on top of a piece of material that looks stitched to the page on my zoo layout, easily keeping the text exactly where I wanted it. I then adjusted the transparency of the piece of material so that the background page was able to show through just a little blending the text box nicely with the layout.

Sharing Your Layouts

When you complete scrapbook pages, Digital Scrapbook Artist allows you to upload them to a unique community online called Daisy Trail. The Daisy Trail website is a forum-type gallery that contains a zoom feature so that you can zoom in on parts of a scrapbook page to clearly see the details and read the journaling. Your layouts can be saved as .jpg, .png, .pdf, or program specific .spb files for easy printing. Each element in the program is a high resolution image designed for gorgeous photo-realistic printing.

If you have wanted to get started digital scrapbooking, you will love how easy it is to get scrapbooking with this software. Also, if you are a seasoned digital scrapbooker and have been looking for a program that was simple to use but still had the power of major graphic design software, Digital Scrapbook Artist is the one you have been waiting for.
